SMART Room Development
Six clinicians the Saint Vincent’s Behavioral Health Clinic participated in a two-day training in SMART (Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment) which is part of a year-long collaboration sponsored by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County.
SMART is now listed in the National registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices/SAMSHA as a promising practice in the treatment of complex trauma. The primary focus of SMART is to engage youth in sensory motor activities in order to assist children in building the capacity for arousal regulation which is necessary for trauma processing and daily living skills.
In preparation for this new treatment, Saint Vincent’s is in the process of building/developing a SMART room which will be dedicated to this new treatment practice. While the room itself has been completed, Saint Vincent’s is pursuing grant opportunities to purchase the equipment needed to open the room for youth being served in the Mental Health Clinic.
